What are LetterScapes™?

LetterScapes are black and white photographs that feature the photography of Texas artist Jan Johnson. Johnson photographs objects seen by most people every day and highlights their resemblance to letters of the alphabet. Each photograph must be interesting and have the ability to stand alone, and when combined with other photos to spell and name or word, create additional meaning.

“My goal is to help people see things just a little differently.”

LetterScapes is one aspect of Johnson’s photography. “I enjoy LetterScapes for many reason but one is that when people choose from the available “photo letters” then it becomes collaborative art.” Collaborative in the sense that Johnson has taken the photographs and the customer chooses the combination to create a unique work of art. She is currently working on a series of posters that include “Houston A to Z” and a book “Texas A to Z”.
